Six Players from the Top-Ranked Vols Win SEC Postseason Honors
Birmingham, Alabama – The SEC office released the postseason awards on Monday afternoon, and the Tennessee Volunteers, the regular season champions in 2024, had a strong representation among the winners. Six players from the Big Orange earned SEC postseason recognition. Drew Beam was named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Dean Curley was chosen for the Freshman All-SEC team, and four players—two of whom were on the first team—earned first or second team All-SEC honors. UT had the second-most players of any team in the conference on both its first and second teams.
Following their seasons as two of the league’s best run producers, Christian Moore and Dylan Dreiling were selected for the first team, while Blake Burke and Kavares Tears were selected for the second team in addition to being named to the SEC All-Defensive team. Beam joins Nico Mascia (2018) and Garrett Stallings (2019) as the third Vol player to win SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year under head coach Tony Vitello. The junior pitcher, who is majoring in finance and has a 3.47 GPA, has been a mainstay in Tennessee’s weekend lineup. Beam, who finished the season ranked eighth in the league with a 3.59 ERA, With an 8-2 record at the end, the native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, tied for fourth place in the SEC with eight victories. For the first time in his career, Moore—who was also a finalist for SEC Player of the Year—was named to the first team. The junior second baseman led all players in conference games with a batting average of.429, 20 home runs, and 41 RBIs, earning him the SEC triple crown in league play.
