Customers complain as eight states see a 30% increase in food prices.

According to surveys conducted by our correspondents, the cost of basic food items increased by at least thirty percent in at least eight states between December and April. Customers are unhappy about the development, claiming that their budgets have been impacted by the increases in product costs.

Despite the naira’s recent recovery, food prices are still skyrocketing throughout the nation. This occurred shortly after President Bola Tinubu promised to guarantee a recovery of the local currency, which was mirrored in commodity prices.

Following the President’s decree, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission agents searched several supermarkets in Abuja last week for engaging in unfair pricing practices, threatening to expand the operation to other states.

Nonetheless, the most recent data from our correspondents revealed that the cost of staple foods like garri and beans had increased by at least 30%. The states of Lagos, Ogun, Gombe, Kwara, Sokoto, Ekiti, Osun, and Niger hosted the surveys.
